Roosa Space Day: To the Moon and Back

Exhibit celebrates the 50-year anniversary of Stuart A. Roosa’s Apollo 14 mission to the moon

The Claremore Museum of History (MoH), in partnership with Claremore Public Schools, is celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Claremore native and astronaut Stuart A. Roosa’s Apollo 14 mission to the moon.  

Dubbed Roosa Space Day: To the Moon and Back, activities will be held on Sept. 18 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the museum (121 N Weenonah Ave.) and the Claremore High School Innovation Center (201 E. Stuart Roosa Dr.). 

Schedule of events at MOH (1-4p, come and go):

  • 1 p.m. – Unveiling of a new Stuart A. Roosa exhibit
  • 2:30 p.m. – Groundbreaking ceremony for a new Roosa-themed playground (funded by the City of Claremore Parks and Recreation Department) and Moon Tree dedication.
  • 3 p.m. – Appearance and book signing with Oklahoma Space historian, Bill Moore, author of Oklahomans and Space
  • 3:30 p.m. – Video message from the Roosa family.  Footage will be made available to media outlets.
  • 3:45 p.m. – Claremore Public Schools Scavenger Hunt winner announced.  More than 40 families will participate in an all-day scavenger hunt hosted by the
  • 4 – 6 p.m. – A Members Only event reception featuring additional NASA-provided space artifacts. 

    The MoH is expanding its Roosa Exhibit to include background on his career as an astronaut, Apollo 14 mission and his life in Claremore, family, career and accomplishments.

  • Flight simulator
  • NASA artifacts
  • Virtual reality headsets
