Hillcats Open MIAA Play With Road Win At Newman

Rogers State women’s soccer (4-2-2, 1-0 MIAA) captured the first MIAA win of the Chris Jones Era with a 1-0 victory over Newman (0-7-1, 0-1 MIAA) on the road on Sunday.

Hannah Schulze netted her third goal of the season with an assist from Ashton Shepperson in the win. Cambree Towle (1-2) was excellent in goal as she earned her first win and first clean sheet of the season with two shots faced.

The first half was all Hillcats as they opened the game with an offensive barrage that included four shots in the first eight minutes of the match. They managed to outshoot the Jets 14-0 in the opening 45 minutes. However, credit to NU’s goalie Jordan Webster who saved all 10 shots on goal by RSU in the period.

Both sides cranked up the defensive pressure in the second half as neither side had many offensive chances. However, the Hillcats made their limited chances count as Hannah Schulze found pay dirt in the 80th minute with an assist from Ashton Shepperson to deliver RSU the 1-0 victory.

The Hillcats will return home to Soldier Field on Friday, Sept. 23 as they play host to Washburn. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
