Rogers State softball (52-10) took game one of the NCAA Division II Super Regionals 3-1 against Central Oklahoma (48-12) on Thursday night. The Bronchos got things started in the first inning with a lead off walk on a full count to start the game. After a groundout to the pitcher moved the runner to second, an RBI double to shallow right field brought in the run to put UCO up 1-0.
The Hillcats responded in the second inning as Abbey Rogers was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning. After Rogers was pitch run for by Natalie Gonzalez, Bridgett Morales put two runners in scoring position with a double to center field. Makayla Bowman brought both Gonzalez and Morales in with a two RBI double of her own down the left field line to put RSU on top 2-1.
In the next three innings, both starters combined to scatter three hits and leave five runners stranded. The Hillcat bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth as Rogers led off with a single down the left field line. Morales followed with a single up up the middle. Bowman loaded the bases with no out as she looped a ball just over the shortstop’s head for a base hit. Jaylan Gibson got RSU an insurance run and sealed the 3-1 win as she brought in Morales with a RBI fielder’s choice.
Andrea Morales (33-4) earned the complete game win as she went all 7.0 innings only allowing three hits with five strikeouts. Kylee Lynch (26-5) took the loss. With the Thursday win, the Hillcats are one win away from their first-ever berth in the Division II World Series in Denver, Colo. They will look to punch their ticket today (Friday) in game two of the series with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m.
