Rogers State Men’s Basketball Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament

No. 15 Rogers State Men’s Basketball earned an at-large bid and was named the No. 6 seed in the Central Regional Sunday evening during the NCAA Selection Show.

The Hillcats (24-6) will face No. 3 seed Southeastern Oklahoma (23-8) in the opening round on Saturday, March 14. The opening round game will be at noon at Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Missouri.

Rogers State will make its first appearance in the NCAA National Tournament in Men’s Basketball since becoming eligible for the postseason after becoming full NCAA members in the 2016-17 academic year.

The Hillcats are coming off of a trip to the MIAA Tournament Semifinals, as Rogers State fell to Missouri Southern, who also earned an bid to the national tournament. The Hillcats, who played their first season in the MIAA, finished the regular season as the No. 2 team after a 23-5 record, including a 15-4 record in league play.

The Hillcat Men’s Basketball program last made a trip to the national tournament in 2011-12, when the Hillcats made a deep run in the NAIA National Tournament, reaching the quarterfinals.

Rogers State has met its first-round opponent, Southeastern Oklahoma, three times in program history, although the teams have not met since November of 2010. The Hillcats hold a 2-1 record over the Savage Storm all-time, including the last two meetings in 2010 and 2008.

This season, Rogers State is 3-2 against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament, including wins over Henderson State, Oklahoma Baptist and Missouri Southern. The Hillcats lost to Missouri Southern and No.1 overall seed Northwest Missouri.

The Hillcats and Southeastern are matched up on the same side of the Central Region bracket with No. 2 seed Southern Nazarene (24-8) and No. 7 seed Henderson State (23-8). The winners of the NCAA Opening Round will meet in the NCAA Second Round game, which will be played on Sunday at 5 p.m.

All three opponents in Rogers State’s half of the bracket are members of the Great American Conference. Rogers State finished the 2019-20 non-conference season undefeated against the GAC going 3-0.

The winner of the NCAA Second Round game will advance to face the winner of the other half of the Central Region bracket in the Sweet 16. No. 1 seed Northwest Missouri State (30-1), No. 4 seed Northern State (26-6), No. 5 seed Missouri Southern (23-7) and No. 8 seed Oklahoma Baptist (22-9) fill out the other half of the Central Region.

The Regional Championship game and Sweet 16 matchup will be on Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m.

The Elite Eight and national semifinals will be held at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, on March 26 and 28.

This year’s national championship game will be held Sunday, April 5, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rogers State is 15-12 all-time in postseason play, including a 4-3 record in national tournaments.

Tickets for the regional can be purchased online HERE starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday. All seating for the regional will be general admission. Fans can purchase single session tickets in person at the Cashiering office. The Cashiering office, located on the first floor of the Administration Building, will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early.

Single session tickets can be purchased for $12 each for adults and $7 for students. Children 2 and under are free per NCAA policy. The ticket office will open 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the start of each session.
