Claremore Teens Found a Wallet, and Did Something Great

danielkiaraThere are still good people in the world. There are good teens in the world. And a couple of them right here in Claremore did a really great thing recently.

On New Year’s Eve, 16-year-old Sequoyah student Daniel Cowan and his sister, Kiara, were at Claremore Walmart. They found a wallet lying outside the store, which contained an ID, credit cards, and $700 in cash. Instead of pocketing the money, the Cowan kids went to the Claremore Police Department and turned it in, hoping to find the surely distraught owner.

Daniel said he’s lost his wallet before, and it’s the worst feeling. He wanted to do the right thing.

danielfeatureChief of Police Stan Brown praised the teens for their actions. At Monday’s City Council meeting, Daniel received a standing ovation as well as a certificate of appreciation from the city.

The owner of the wallet, who chose to remain anonymous, gifted Daniel and Kiara with a $50 restaurant gift card so the family can enjoy a dinner together.

Good job, Daniel and Kiara!
