The Hammett House restaurant in Claremore has been named one of the 10 favorite places for a taste of home by AAA inspectors.
Of the Hammett House, a AAA two-diamond restaurant, the report said:
“The recent remodel with wallpaper bordering and pictures adorning the walls provides a comfortable, relaxing, country feel. Country-fried steak is hand-breaded and so tender you can cut it with a fork. It’s served with the gravy underneath the steak, which allows you to manage the amount of gravy you get with each bite. The double-crust apple pie is served in a warm skillet al la mode with brandy butter sauce. All pies are baked fresh daily and available by the slice or whole.”
Other restaurants in the top 10 are Lou’s Food Bar, Denver, Colo.; Salt Lick Bar-B-Q, Driftwood and Round Rock, Texas; Lili’s Bistro on Magnolia, Fort Worth, Texas; American Flatbread, Burlington, Va.; Big Pink, Miami Beach, Fla.,; Bryce Canyon Pines, Bryce Canyon City, Utah; Georgia Brown’s, Washington, D.C.; The Meatball Shop, New York, N.Y., and The Moose Café, Asheville, N.C.
Hammett House, also home of the “pampered fried chicken,” has been a Claremore landmark for nearly half a century. It is located at 1616 Will Rogers Blvd.
