Agustin “Gus” Ramirez was recently awarded the first Mendy Stone Mentor Award from Rogers County Volunteers for Youth. The award was presented at the 6th annual “Chair-ity” Auction. This year’s event and sponsorships brought in nearly $20,000 for the PAL Mentoring Program of Volunteers for Youth. According to the award presenter, Mendy Stone, Ramirez is the type of volunteer that any agency would pray for and even the “Chair-ity” Auction fundraiser was his idea. “Gus is a young at heart, active retiree that has cheerfully participated in every facet of our agency. While serving on our board he provided inspiration and motivation to fellow board members and never missed an opportunity to encourage me and our staff. He attended board training opportunities even when travel and overnight stays were necessary,” said Stone. The City of Claremore has scheduled Permit-Free Garage Sale Weekend for April 25-28. Here's what you need to know: A garage sale permit is not required and Utilities Department does not provide signs during this period. Number of signs allowed: 3 signs allowed to advertise per garage sale with 1 located on the site of the garage sale and 2 off-site signs allowed in City right-of-way but cannot block the view of traffic. Sign time limitation: Signs shall not be erected sooner than the day of the sale, and all signs must be removed at the close of the garage sale activities or are subject to a fine of up to $20. Prohibited signs: No signs may be posted on any public street signs or posts, traffic signs, utility poles, or street lights. Get ready, mountain bike racers! The Shoreline Shred of the Tour de Dirt series will be held at the Claremore Mountain Bike Trail on Sunday, March 24. Primitive camping will be available. There will be music Saturday evening and bike events/games during the day. Sunday will be the race on a new course that will challenge your skills while putting a grin on your face. Wrestling for a Cause is having another fun event in Claremore! You're invited to Hometown Heroes 6: The Fight for Connor! Get tickets HERE! Connor is a 12-year-old at Will Rogers Junior High. He is in Boy Scouts and band, and plays football. This past October, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He is on a three-year treatment plan at The Children's Hospital at St. Francis. The Fight for Connor will be held at Mobra Fieldhouse at Claremore High School (201 E. Stuart Roosa) on Saturday, April 20. VIP tickets are $20, general admission tickets are $10, and kids under 12 are $5. VIP entrance is at 3:30p, GA at 4:30, and bell time is 5p.

Don't panic, it's organic! That's the slogan for the 24th Annual Claremore FFA Calf Fry and Labor Auction. This popular fundraiser will be held Thursday, April 11, at the Claremore Expo. Dinner starts at 6p. The menu consists of calf fries, brisket, baked potatoes, salad, and homemade desserts. There will also be a student auction, silent auction, and a plant sale.
