Gymnastics City’s 50th Anniversary Open Gym Celebration and Reunion
June 12 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
In 1971, the gymnastics journey began for Judy Tucker and it was started with one question. Her late husband, Charles Tuckers, said, “Judy, are you going to get a summer job when school is out?” Knowing that she wouldn’t be able to sit still all summer long with nothing to do, she called John Coble at Claremore Junior College (now Rogers State University). And that is how Gymnastics City was born.
After a few years at CJC, she packed up and moved to the new National Guard Armory on Blue Starr Dr. Twelve years later, it was time to build her own gym, as the 10,000 sq. ft. space was getting smaller by the day.
In 2006, she built the current location with the help of her children, Jamie Tucker Bell and Kent Tucker, doubling the size of the facility. She has been able to provide gymnastics for thousands of families over the years. Judy is also a retired school teacher of 33 years, having taught physical education in both Tulsa and Claremore Public Schools.
Her legacy still continues at Gymnastics City. She may no longer operate the daily tasks at Gymnastics City, but the kids in our community still have a great place to do gymnastics, even after Miss Judy’s retirement in 2015. Traci and Kent Tucker have been the owners since then and have continued to see growth each year.
It’s quite an accomplishment to celebrate 50 years in the same business, in the same town…and now the students are grandchildren of former gymnasts. The Tucker family knows that it is due to all of the hard work and dedication by Miss Judy, and they would like to thank all of the families who have supported their business for the past 50 years.
Gymnastics City is hosting a 50th Anniversary Open Gym Celebration and Reunion on Saturday, June 12th, from 12:30p – 2:30p. Past and current gymnasts, coaches, and families are invited to stop by to visit Miss Judy and have plenty of fun with inflatables, snow cones, and more! If you would like to register your child for Open Gym, please sign them up HERE.
Congratulations to Gymnastics City!
