Downtown Derby raises money to treat and cure Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP).
On May 4, the Claremore community will come together to help find a cure for FOP.
FOP is one of the rarest, most disabling genetic conditions known to medicine. It causes bone to form in muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. This bone growth produces bridges of extra bone to develop across joints, progressively restricting movement and forming a second skeleton. Currently, there is no treatment or cure for FOP, but promising clinical trials and research provide hope to patients and their families.
Downtown Derby is planned for Saturday, May 4, at North Block Common, 2pm-6pm. The event will feature Derby-themed cocktails, food, music and, of course, watching the Kentucky Derby.
“FOP has impacted our family, but our hope is that a treatment and cure are getting closer,” says Amy Gordon, whose son, Zip, has FOP. “The money we raise will fund critical FOP research to end this disease once and for all!”
Tickets are $30 per person or $50 for a pair and can be purchased here.
