Please Donate Blood, Claremore!

First Christian Church will host their semi-annual blood drive with the Oklahoma Blood Institute on Sunday, April 5, from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center at 5th and Florence. First Christian Church has been notified by OBI that there is a critical blood shortage.

OBI is a local non-profit blood bank that provides blood products for over 90% of the state of Oklahoma’s hospital facilities.  Donors need to drink a lot of water and eat well before donating.   A valid identification is necessary.  The committee will provide commercially packaged snacks and bottled water for participants.  Each donor receives a free “Friends” themed t-shirt from OBI.  During the month of April all blood donors will receive a free round of bowling courtesy of Broken Arrow Lanes or Andy B’s.  Please contact Charlotte Johnson, committee chair, at 918-688-6970, to reserve an appointment time.  Or donors can make an appointment at obi.org.

According to OBI’s website, blood donation is safe and critically important, despite concerns surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19). Oklahoma Blood Institute is, as always, committed to safety for our donors, patients, and communities and we urge you to keep your scheduled appointments and continue to donate blood.  The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) reports no cases of COVID-19 transmitted through blood transfusion, and respiratory viruses generally are not known to be transmitted by blood transfusion.
