We recently introduced you to Paul Gossett, owner of Tribal Nations CBD Outlet in Claremore. Paul knows that there are a lot of questions floating around about CBD oil and its uses, so we asked him to share some of his knowledge.
Q: What is the difference between marijuana and hemp?
Both marijuana and industrial hemp are a part of the plant family called cannabis. The marijuana plant is specifically grown and strained to be very high in THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and very low in CBD. Until recently, THC was the most recognized of the cannabinoids due to it’s psychoactive properties.
On the other end of the family, is industrial hemp, which is specifically designed and grown to be high in CBD (cannabidiol) and very low in THC. Even though the two plants look identical to the eye, they are two very different plants with polar opposite content regarding cannabinoids.
Another way to view it is considering two members of the citrus family. When comparing an orange to a lemon, one can see that the orange is very high in vitamin C and low in citric acid. On the other hand, the lemon is low in vitamin C and high in citric acid. Both are citrus, but each has its own distinguishing properties and have completely different applications.
