Fuel for the Soul: AMP Finds a New Home

On the corner of Blue Starr and Highway 88 sits an empty gas station. Located just across the street from Rogers State University this building has found new life. Two local churches are combing efforts to make the unique space into a place of education and fellowship. Members of both First United Methodist Church and Claremore Assembly of God are joining forces to create an off campus space to hold their Amp student ministry.

Amp began as a way to amplify millennials within the church, but has grown to much more.

Jeff Losornio said, “We aren’t trying to force anyone into anything, just providing a place for dinners, studying and events built specifically for the college age kids.”

The building is in the early stages of renovation and the churches are welcoming any donations. The initial cost will be between $20,000-$25,000 for buildout.

Losornio said, “We hope to eventually have coffee machines, sofas and maybe even a washer dryer for those college students that might need that extra help.”

The Amp program began three years ago as a Sunday night dinner with a worship service following. They currently meet at Claremore Assembly of God and average 40-45 people per week. Holding events at the new space will make it easier for students at RSU to join and should help build the program.

Zorn said, “It is about lifting up the community. These kids are from all over and need a place to build relationships that might help them reach beyond academics and athletics to achieve true life goals.”

They hope to have it up an running ASAP with a goal of March 24th. If you have any of the items below and would like to donate, please contact Jeff at 918-633-7372

Donation List: Sound equipment, sofas and love seats, pub tables, industrial coffee machine and of course cash donations are welcome.
