Claremore homecoming and the Claremore Alumni Association go hand in hand. The Alumni Association had a true banner year in both funds raised and increased activity. Homecoming is October 5th and the Alumni Association is in full swing, gearing up for the alumni brunch and programming at the Claremore Elks Lodge starting at 9:30AM. Tickets are just $20 at the door.
The Claremore Alumni Association has been raising funds and giving away scholarships for years, but this year is different! In the past they gave out five $500 scholarships each year to graduating seniors. These were based on teacher recommendations and would be presented at the Alumni luncheon. This year, the homecoming host class of 1993 and the 50 year class of 1968 have gone above and beyond. The Class of ’58 hosted the annual golf tournament at Heritage Hills, and with some simple improvements, the tourney generated $16,000!
Alumni Association Director Dave Burrows said, “We are raising the scholarships to $1,000 this year and increasing from five to twenty-three.”
Scholarships will be awarded homecoming morning at the alumni brunch, before the school pep assembly at 12:30p.
High school juniors will now apply for the scholarships by submitting a resume and other required information. Students will be anonymous and a panel will select the top applications. Students must apply the scholarship toward tuition after enrolling in school.
In addition, the class of 2017 gifted $5,000 to the Alumni Association to be used toward scholarships over the next 10 years.
Burrows said, “The community has been so incredibly supportive of the Alumni Association and that speaks volumes to the level of students we are graduating each year at CHS. This cycle should just keep rolling on and improving year after year.”
