This month’s book review will highlight a fun book series by Mike Thaler. Starting with The Teacher from the Black Lagoon, this series depicts different school staff in silly ways with cartoonish illustrations by Jared Lee. A few of the favorites available at the Will Rogers Library are The School Bus Driver from the Black Lagoon, The School Secretary from the Black Lagoon and The Cafeteria Lady from the Black Lagoon.
Each story deals with a fear of a new experience. In The Cafeteria Lady from the Black Lagoon, the students hear crazy rumors about the new cook, Wanda Belch. The tales get taller and taller until the end when they find Ms. Belch to be nice. She even made hamburgers and fries for lunch! Even though these books are funny, they do help young students face fears about new situations at school. This series can be found in the Early Reader section of the Will Rogers Library.
We hope to welcome many friends to the programs for young readers at the library. There are two weekly storytimes; Baby and Me is held at 9:30a each Wednesday morning for ages 0-3. Please bring a blanket to put on the floor if your child is very young. In this storytime, we enjoy books as well as music and movement.
Preschool Storytime follows at 10a for kids 3 years and up. During this time we enjoy a few more books as well as an easy art activity or craft.
The library also has two Lego Clubs, each held once a month. Jr. Lego Club for ages 5-9 is held the first Tuesday of each month from 4:00-4:45p , and Lego Club is held each third Tuesday from 4:00-5:00p for ages 10-14. If you have questions, please give the library a call at 918-341-1564.
The Will Rogers Library has many great resources for children and adults alike. Be sure to stop by to find out what’s new at the library!
