The Box Social and Lynn Riggs Birthday Celebration
The Claremore Museum of History in partnership with the Cherokee Nation presents the second in a series of three events for the 75 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION of Rodger and Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA! based on Green Grow the Lilacs by LYNN RIGGS.
This event will be held at Rogers State University in the Dr. Carolyn Taylor Center commencing at 5:30 P.M. on Friday, August 31st, with our own rendition of the “Box Social” dinner that will bring back memories of the musical and film OKLAHOMA! set in Claremore, Oklahoma Territory.
The Master of Ceremonies for this event will be Keith Austin, Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilor, and our guest speaker will be Tim Carter, author of Oklahoma! The Making of an American Musical followed by musical entertainers Mike Hosty, Annie Ellicott and our very own local talent, Travis Peck. You will not want to miss this great evening of entertainment.
Cherokee baskets made by renowned Cherokee artist Danielle Culp will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, complete with desserts made by Claremore’s best bakers. It will truly be an OKLAHOMA! night to remember in celebration of the greatest playwright of the Southwest and Claremore native, Lynn Riggs.
