Rogers County Feeding Extravaganza is a program designed totally for kids and teaches responsibility, leadership skills, and knowledge of the agriculture industry, plus it has a guaranteed payback on every dollar invested if your child hustles to sell raffle tickets.
The program is open to children ages four years through graduating senior. Participants will purchase a hog in the next few weeks to feed throughout the summer months. The program begins on Monday, May 28, at 10a, when each child will bring his or her hog to the Rockin’ M Auction Barn (4940 W. Hwy 20, Pryor) for weigh-in and tagging. The final weigh-in will be held the first half of September.
Hogs are judged on rate of gain, carcass merit, and a record book, with awards being given out for rate of gain, carcass merit and overall winners. Two $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to the highest scoring seniors either graduating this year or going to be a senior starting in August. Each child will have the option to sell raffle tickets on 2 fattened steers and 2 fattened hogs for $5.00 per ticket with all money raised going to child to fund their project, so this program does not become a burden on any family.
One change made this year is the marketing of the animal at the end of program. Child has the option to keep animal to feed their family, sell the animal, or donate the animal to the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank, to feed the needy in our area.
There will be a banquet on October 20th at Chelsea High School Cafeteria, where attendees can enjoy dinner and winners will be announced in all categories. There will also be a Hay Auction and Pie Auction, with 100% of all money raised through these auctions to be split equally among all kids in program.
