Claremore Baseball Booster Club continues to improve Legion Field

Any baseball players that have made their way through Rogers County have spent time at the legendary American Legion Park. The Claremore Baseball Booster Club, Inc. was founded in 1993 to facilitate capital improvements and assist in heavy maintenance needs to keep the field in excellent condition. They gave us a behind-the-plate tour last week. Here are some of their updates and changes over the last 25 years.

A seven-member community board manages the CBBC. Since its inception, the CBBC has funded or assisted in funding:

  • Brick and netting backstop
  • Perimeter brick fencing
  • Infield drainage system
  • Field lighting system
  • Bull pens
  • Maintenance building
  • Locker room facility
  • Electronic reader board
  • Outfield fence
  • Pressbox and concession stand
  • Scoreboards
  • Right field deck
  • Public address system
  • Outfield drainage system and warning track construction

Over the last 25 years, the CBBC has paid $539,155 in total for all of these projects. Many others contributed to the efforts including the City of Claremore, Claremore Public Schools, GRDA and numerous privately-owned companies, as well as many individuals and volunteers.

One major improvement was the new lighting system. The CBBC purchased the system for $93,500. Pelco Structural donated the steel poles and the City of Claremore paid for rigging, erection of poles and electrical power system. Power was run underground to keep the beautiful aesthetics and have no overhead wiring. Estimated value of that project is $275,000.

The CBBC continues to make improvements and will re-sod the infield this summer.
