The staff of Visit Claremore is on the road again! Recently returning from Louisville, Tanya Andrews, director of Visit Claremore, attended a sales convention for motor coach and tour group leaders. Now the staff focuses on leisure travelers.
“This is the time of year when consumers are looking for vacation ideas, or weekend get-aways,” said Andrews. “Spring break is around the corner and visitors in the surrounding states may be looking for a short family outing, with a variety of activities.”
This last week Tanya and Sales Manager Rachelle Reynolds set up a booth at the Wichita Women’s Fair showcasing Claremore and the area. “The women’s shows really allow us to focus on the market where 75% of the travel decisions are made…women. They want ideas for shopping, things the family can do, possibly activities or events, hotels, and restaurants. This is a great way for us to reach them in person, and give them ideas for spring and summer.”
At the same time, Allison Burkhead, Special Events Manager, showcased Claremore at the Ft. Worth Home & Garden Show. “This show has a great travel section and includes both men and women, so Allison is able to reach both markets and offer activities such as golf, or a visit to the JM Davis Arms & Historical Museum to see the great gun collection, while at the same time giving the ladies a hint of the wonderful shops Claremore has with wonderful activities for the kids.”
The Snowbird Travel Show featured in McAllen, Texas, offers destinations the chance to showcase to those who are “Winter Texans.” This show is held in January each year, and Claremore was represented by Lisa Rogers, Visit Claremore Marketing Manager. “RV owners look for things to see and do on the way to Texas, and on their way back home. Research shows 1.2 million of these Snowbirds come through Oklahoma; we offer a great place to stop and rest during their long trip home, and visit our attractions, shops and restaurants while they are here,” said Andrews. “We have three great RV parks in town that offer full amenities to this group of travelers. From 30 amps to 50-amp, full hook-up or electric only, our RV Parks are great accommodations”.
“January through March is our time for traveling and getting out to meet consumers who are really interested in Claremore and Oklahoma. We partner with the state of Oklahoma’s tourism department and along with other communities around the state, we promote Oklahoma as a destination,” said Andrews. “There is no better way to sell Claremore and all we have to offer than a face-to-face with the audience. Most of these shows have an average attendance of 30,000 or more, depending on the location.”
There are still a few more shows and opportunities to share Claremore with, such as the St. Louis Working Women’s Show next weekend, and the Kansas City Home Show in March. “We look forward to seeing these folks in Claremore.” For more information on “all things Claremore”, visit www.visitclaremore.org.
