Archers third grade through 12th, from Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas will meet at the Expo Center and compete in numerous competitions. The event, sanctioned by the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP), will award the top 3 to 5 Top Shooters in each of the three age groups: elementary, middle school/junior high, and high school.
In 2017, the tournament brought approximately 500 competitors, and 1000 family members, to Claremore. “The Expo Center is the perfect venue for this event,” said Tanya Andrews, director of the Expo & Visit Claremore. “The Indoor Arena is 60,000 square feet, which offers a lot of space for this competition. It is also heated, and as we know, in March the weather can be temperamental. Competitors and their families will enjoy Claremore’s attractions, our eateries, shopping and will be staying in town; tourism at its finest.”
“We started originally thinking of ways to help raise money for our kids who qualified for Nationals last year,” said Don Taylor, president of Rogers County Youth Archery Program. “As we talked further, we began looking at ways to not just help the kids going to Nationals, but to help any NASP program in Rogers County. Most of them are self-funded with little or no help from the schools. Our kids have all shot at the Red River Shootout in Texas, so the plan was hatched to do a shoot similar to that. The decision was made since we are in an area that is bordered closely by 3 other states, to invite schools from all four states. Hence, the 4-State Bow Bash was born. We knew from experience that it would require a larger venue than just a school gym, so that is how we spoke with you in hopes of being able to use the indoor arena. We hope as time goes along, that this will continue to grow into one of the largest shoots in the country.”
Sponsors of the first 4-State Bow Bash are Rogers County Youth Archery Program, Claremore Expo & Tourism Development, BancFirst, Blackbeard Marine, and RCB Bank.
