Cowboy hat… Check.
At the end of May, the Will Rogers Stampede Rodeo is back for its 71st year. (Tickets are available online now.) After being named back-to-back PRCA rodeo of the year for 2014 and 2015, it was quite the shock when lo and behold, at the 2016 awards their name was called once again! Three time champions and still going strong.
Last year, the rodeo introduced a concert series that was held in the arena on performance nights. This year they are doing one better by adding a fourth concert to the mix.
As a kick-off party, they have teamed up with the Claremore Merchants and Food Truck Thursday for “Boots on the Boulevard”. There will be kid activities, food trucks and a FREE live concert by Shinyribs on Missouri Ave. in downtown the night before the rodeo begins. (Between Main Street Tavern and North Block Common buildings.) http://shinyribs.org
Rodeo performances begin Friday night with everything from bull riding to barrel racing. Stick around after the events for the concert series. If you like red dirt or country or both, you won’t want to be anywhere else this Memorial Day weekend.
Friday night after the riding is complete, Cody Canada and The Departed will take the Stampede Stage. http://www.thedepartedmusic.com
Saturday evening will feature Jason Boland and The Stragglers. http://www.thestragglers.com
Wrapping up the amazing four days of concerts and rodeo will be legendary country band, Ricochet on Sunday night. http://www.ricochetonline.com
Daily tickets for kids are $7 and adults are $15. Visit willrogersstampede.com for special family packs and multi-day ticket prices.
See you at the Rodeo Grounds on Blue Starr.
