Angela Henderson, Executive Director of Child Advocates of Northeast Oklahoma (CANO), received the Non-Profit Leadership Leading Ladies Award at the Ladies Lifestyle event on Tuesday, October 11.
Held at the Claremore Conference Center, the second annual Ladies Lifestyle was produced by the Claremore Area Chamber of Commerce and Claremore Main Street. The women-focused event concluded by honoring seven women (in various categories) who have proven to be dynamic and outstanding leaders in their community. The presentation and awards ceremony was conducted by media personality Sunny Leigh and Michelle Lowry.
Angela was honored as the recipient in the non-profit category for her tireless work in ensuring the safety and welfare of the children that CASA serves in five counties in northeastern Oklahoma. She received an award plaque and a beautiful Rustic Cuff bracelet specially designed for the honorees.
CANO originally served children in three counties – Rogers, Mayes, and Craig. Under Angela’s leadership, in September 2015 CANO expanded their CASA program into Ottawa and Delaware Counties. In September 2016, CANO also added an office in Miami in order to better serve our volunteers and clients in the 13th Judicial District.
Angela works diligently to ensure there are CASA Volunteers to help abused or neglected children have a caring, consistent adult to advocate for his/her well-being while in foster care. Because of the efforts of Angela and her staff, CANO Volunteers worked with 236 children involved in 106 court cases in these five counties during the July 2015 through June 2016 period. Angela’s main focus is that each of the children CASA serves will be safe, will have a permanent home, and will be given the opportunity to thrive.
