RSU-TV was recently honored at the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) conference in Dallas, Texas. The NETA Awards are annual recognition of member-produced excellence in public broadcasting The station was recognized for “Green Country People & Places” and the “UHF 25 Celebration” with Weird Al Yankovic.
RSU-TV created “Green Country People & Places” won in the category of content production for local arts and culture. “Green Country People & Places” showcases the northeast corner of Oklahoma. The station produced 13 episodes from 39 different locations. RSU-TV’s Bryan Crain and Tim Yoder served as producers and directors of the documentaries.
NETA judges said Crain and Yoder brilliantly told the story of a historical place in Tulsa with heart and soul.
The UHF 25 Celebration, spearheaded by Jennifer Sterling, with assistance from Dale McKinney, Bryan Crain and Rachelle Faught, was recognized in the promotion category for best special event.
UHF 25 brought together the 25th anniversary of RSU-TV going on the air as well as the production of Weird Al’s cult classic film “UHF,” in Tulsa. Sterling, McKinney, Crain and Faught were commended for combining Weird Al appearances and social media to rally the community around arts, literacy and the community.
NETA is a professional association founded in 1997 to serve public television licensees and affiliated educational organizations. The organization has members in 43 states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands. NETA is headquartered in Columbia, SC.
RSU Public TV the only full-powered public television station licensed to a public university in Oklahoma. RSU Public TV provides educational, cultural and general interest programming to an audience of 1.3 million viewers in northeastern Oklahoma. RSU Public TV broadcasts via DISH, DirectTV and UHF Channel 35 and is carried on 76 cable systems in the region.
