3 Tips for Dry Skin 

dry skinI realized this week I’ve written a lot about what to do with combo/oily or acne-prone skin, but as we approach colder temps everything is about to change, including our skin. Therefore this week let’s go over what you can do to help keep skin hydrated and looking alive!

1. Make sure your moisturizer is made for dry skin. 
It’s interesting because dry skin can use moisturizers for either combo/oily skin OR dry skin, but if those with combo/oily skin used a moisturizer for dry skin it could be detrimental in the appearance of the skin. BUT as temperatures drop, it’ll be more important your moisturizer is doing its job by sticking to one that works for your skin type. Believe it for not, acne can be caused by both an overcompensation of moisture OR a lack of it! So do your skin a favor this winter…moisturize daily! 

2. Exfoliate less! 
Not to sound like a broken record, but I think it’s been made clear that exfoliating is important! However, all skin types tend to dry out and are prone to wind burn and sunburn through the winter, especially here in Oklahoma. So exfoliating is important to keep skin looking healthy and glowing through the winter, but please don’t scrub when you’re wind burned or sun burned…it could cause painful blisters. Ouch! 
My suggestion: exfoliate once a week or even 2x a month instead of twice a week.

3. Don’t forget about the other skins! 
As funny as that sounds, what I mean is don’t forget about your other extremities. As your face dries out (or is always dried out), keep in mind your elbows, knees, and feet are about 10x drier. Treat them to a deep at-home soak and exfoliation once a month and don’t forget to apply lotion regularly. They will surely thank you.
My suggestion: Mary Kay’s Extra Emollient Night Cream. There is seriously nothing that compares when it comes to moisture. It’s almost greasy it’s so thick, but it’s been around for 51 years for a reason, that’s for sure! 

Dry skin has its own set of challenges, just as oily skin does. But the good news is, dry skin is easily remedied. Oh and just FYI, dry skin ages faster, so if you don’t normally moisturize with anti-aging, hop to it!
