Payne Named National Baseball Coach of the Year

IMG_6504Last Wednesday, at the Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Claremore’s own Brent Payne was awarded the prestigious title of National Baseball Coach of the Year. The award is presented by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.

Coach Payne was nominated by Oklahoma Coaches Association, and attended the ceremony along with eight other national baseball nominees. In all, 19 sports were represented at the event, which Payne said was like being at the Academy Awards.

“What I’m most proud of are the really good assistant coaches and the players I’ve had the privelege to work with over the years. This is truly an award that is shared by a lot of people,” he said.

Payne has been a head coach for 27 years, winning state titles at Oologah and Haskell, and has led Claremore to three consecutive state tournaments in his impressive career.

Congratulations from Claremore, Coach Payne!
