Behind the scenes is the city’s tourism arm, Visit Claremore. Our mission is to promote, service, and sell Claremore as a destination. “We are sometimes mistaken for the Recreation Center, Expo Center, Chamber of Commerce, and yes, even the city’s utility department”, said Tanya Andrews, executive director of Visit Claremore. “Our office is located inside the Claremore Expo Center, so that might be confusing; or maybe it is because we don’t have a building or a façade, but our job is not to be in the office at all times; we need to be out and in front of the traveling public. The outreach to the traveling public is our destination.”
January to April our staff can be found in Kansas, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas to reach potential visitors. Promoting our world class museums, and annual festivals and events can be seen through travel shows, the many press releases sent to over 1,000 newspapers across the country, advertisements in travel publications (like AAA Home & Away), group travel conventions and sports related groups. “Tourism is the purest form of economic development. Visitor spending can be seen in our retail shops, in our restaurants, and guests staying in our hotels. The dollars that visitors bring to the community contribute to city sales taxes and utility usage, which help pay for fire, police, parks and recreation, and roads said Andrews. “Bringing new business by ways of tour groups, special events, meetings & conventions, and new visitors is what we do. We are committed to increasing our efforts to help Claremore businesses grow, increase jobs, increase everyday business for our local economy, and develop new tourism products along the way.” There is no better way to showcase a community than when visitors come to town and return year after year, or they return permanently. We hear often, that someone comes for a visit or their child is going to RSU, and they fall in love with what we have and move here. What a wonderful compliment to our community! So, the more we are out and about, behind the scenes, the more we showcase Claremore! Promoting Claremore’s festivals and events to our residents is equally as important. We do this through utility stuffers of Claremore utility customers (bi-monthly), monthly E-news, and work with local media outlets to help get information to the community.
